Songs that Pop into my Head at Inappropriate Moments

Image
I have been thinking of making a few playlists and I am trying them out on my precious readers ears. This is meant to be fun. You won't find sappy love song lists are massive workout song lists here. Just some good old fun.   Did you ever have moments where the weirdest songs pop into your head at the most inappropriate times of the day such as in the middle of someone's presentation or at a funeral. Ah, the joys of being ADD! Jungle Love , Morris Day and the Time , Do you know how to keep a straight face during this song? Don't Stand So Close to Me , The Police , For those of you with a crush on your teacher. Let's Go Crazy , Prince , This one plays in my head at funerals.  The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get , Morrissey , The Creeper Song Walk Like an Egyptian , The Bangles , This one pops up anytime. How to bag a Nerd.

Image
This is one of those "I haven't had my meds and this is what I thought about while I was mowing the  lawn" type of post. This post is meant to be funny and there may be a few gems of truth in it.    Let's you and I take a ride into the Dork Forest and I will show you a reclusive creature. These creatures are not as rare as we think, we will call this creature, the nerd. Usually they lurk behind test tubes and lab benches. Some can only be seen by the light a computer screen. There are about as many male and female versions of the nerd. These other-worldly beings are passionate about what they do. It could be science, math, or computers. They are prized for their ability to reproduce other intelligent and successful creatures. This is my guide for finding, catching, and keeping one of them. How to catch their attention   You can't just pop out in front of one them and just introduce yourself, especially if they are engaged in one of their ritualistic task...

Believing in Yourself

Image
I did not get much sleep last night. It’s that full plate thing and it is weird because there is nothing inherently bad or anxiety causing in what I have taken on. I have embraced the idea of being a heretic, please refer to Seth Godin’s Tribes for the meaning of this word and this EntrepreneurialSpirit blog post .   I am not a religious person but I am a faithful person. I embrace the idea of faith, hope, love, and all of the entrapments that come with this territory. People need a restoration of faith, not in the religious sense but in the deeper meaning of the faith that comes from within oneself.   In many ways, I grew up not having faith in myself. I misplaced it in objects and other people. I don’t follow Christianity but the general broad sense of the definition of faith that crosses all boundaries of religions. There is a universal truth that comes from all the religions and I am a believer in the Universe and the Universal Truth. Some people call it ...

A Few Words on Relationships

Image
I have been a bit busy lately and it is a challenge making sure I get everything done but this is the kind of challenge I thrive in. Between working on the business and doing summer research at my college, my plate is rather full.   So when someone attempted to come back into my life recently, I had to seriously question what I wanted from my personal relationships. Never fear, the husband and I are not getting back together. He likes men as much as I do and I cherish the fact that out of all of it, we are good friends and no, nothing to do with my friend, Tangential either.   This was a relationship that did not have much substance. So I questioned, very harshly, whether or not I needed this particular relationship at all in my life. I realized that I was over fluff. That some of the things that I was inviting into my life were not good for me.   I am not sure if I have mentioned before that I am a people pleaser. When you fall into this category, you...

How to Rock Out on SongPop

Image
I am addicted to SongPop. I can't help it. As a musician, I may have a bit of a head start on many of the categories. One of my friends described winning against me to be "orgasmic" since it does not happen often enough for his taste. I am challenged in categories I know absolutely nothing about. But , here are a few tips to help you master even your worst category! Keep your mouse in between all four choices, right in the middle.  You will be close to the right answer at all times. Scan your choices, quickly.  Don't just hear the music, listen to the words. The lyrics hold clues to the song title! If you don't know the category at all, follow the person who challenged you.  Give yourself some time to learn it! At the end of the category, you can not only "heart" your favorites, but you can see the songs you don't know on Youtube, Spotify, or other music player.  This is key because this is how musicians learn new songs! Even if you don...

Cleaning out some closets

Image
I have been cleaning my mom's spare bedroom closets today in hopes of gaining more room to put things away that were tossed in there for the past six months. I am hoping to turn it into a shared space for her craft business Talin Creations and my education business Learning Connections . I was a bit of a slave driver but mom was a good slave today by shredding old papers and clearing off the desk that is in that room. We are not done as this is a weekend project but I had to begin somewhere. Before:   After:

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

Image
I am at my parent's house soaking up their internet signal. Mom has been studying for her final in General Chemistry and I have been slightly annoying. It is far too quiet for me. I like background noise even when I study. I learned that I don't like to study alone either. There are certain days where I unplug from the internet to do some deep core work but those occasions are rare. This could be why I love coffee shops so much besides the obvious caffeine content.    At any rate, I have been somewhat useful, such as dragging the indoor plants out onto the patio and watering them. I also made mom what she requested for lunch, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.    Every time I make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, I am transported back to high school and Acting classes with Tom Marcello. Improvisations were constant in our class. Having the capability to be given a scene or situation and act. No script. Make up your own dialogue and action. One of these ...
