Book Review: Welcome to the World

First, let me say that it is a joy when I get to review any of Kanta Bosniak's delightful books. You may recall that I reviewed Twin Flames: More Love Poems last October. Kanta is a spiritual guide in this crazy world. She is warm, insightful, and compassionate. I expect nothing less than that in her writing. Twin Flames gave this Yankee woman the "feels," as the kids call it. But they are not tears of pain and loss, they are always of the heart leaping out of the chest with joy.

However, her new title Welcome to the World is a very different read for me. As a tutor, I have read all sorts of children's books or educational books that focus on child development. I understand the implications of positive psychology and early development as parental stress does have long term effects on the child. While my specialty is not early childhood development, a stable and caring home environment does not take a degree in rocket science to comprehend the extent to which parents influence development. This book sets itself apart from other books in these ways:

  1. The book is written in the perspective of parent to child at every development stage.
  2. Kanta's language throughout the book is carefully chosen to reflect consistent positive thoughts.
  3. It can help ease parent distress before baby's arrival by creating a bond when read aloud.
  4.  It is a keepsake coloring book.
This book is excellent for first time parents or any parent. You can color the book and read it aloud before delivery day. Or read it aloud and color it together as they are ready for coloring activities. I support the as an education professional who works with parents and their child in academics. Many times, my job is not only in tutoring and improving self-confidence in the student but also in training the parents to be more receptive to their children in a way that improves their academic performance. Welcome to the World supports the very same child-parent relationships that I work with at a much earlier age.
If you know any expecting parents, I would add this to your gifting for the baby shower. If they are celebrating their new arrival, it's never too late to begin the positive bonds with this book.
